GENERAL INFORMATION:
The 6th International Symposium on Operations Research and Its Applications
(ISORA’06), organized by Asia-Pacific Operations Research Center (APORC) under
APORS and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), will be held in Xinjiang Uygur
Autonomous Region, China from August 8-12, 2006.
ISORA is a series
international symposium with goals to provide an international forum for
scientists, researchers, educators, and practitioners to exchange ideas and
approaches, to present research findings and state-of-the-art solutions, to
share experiences on potentials and limits, and to open new avenues of research
and developments, on all issues and topics related to the theories and
applications of Operations Research. Recently past two ISORA’02 and ISORS’05
held in along the Yangtze River and Tibet were successful and attracted many
international scholars.
ISORA’06 will be
jointly organized with the OR Society of Japan. Theme of the ISORA’06 will be
focused on “OR Applications in Development”. We are particularly
interested in submissions that report on experimental and applied research
motivated by practical social and industrial problems. Theoretical and applied
papers are expected to show convincingly the usefulness and efficiency of
optimization algorithms discussed in a practical setting. Typical, but not
exclusive, topics of interest are:
|
Optimization theory & applications Algorithms and design Logistics Management Telecommunication Networks OR practices in industry, service, finance,
business and biology. |

Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
in China covers over 1,600,000 square kilometers (617,763 square miles),
one-sixth of China's total territory, making it China's largest province.
Xinjiang borders Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan,
Uzbekistan, Tadzhikistan,
Afghanistan,
Pakistan and India. With a population of over 19 million, Xinjiang is home to
47 ethnic groups including the Uygur, the major ethnic group in Xinjiang.
The ancient Silk Road
brought Xinjiang a mix of eastern and western cultures, which left behind
stunning relics. Today, those ancient cities, caves, temples and tombs attract
countless tourists from home and abroad.
Urumqi is the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The
city lies west of Bogda Mountain (part of the Tianshan Range) and at the
southeastern edge of Junggar Basin. For over two thousand years, the area
around Urumqi has been lush pasture populated by many
minorities who herded sheep and cattle, Urumchi actually meaning
"beautiful pastures" in Mongolian.
Surrounding the city,
the rich oases, grasslands, forests, vast expanse of desert, and especially the
Huoyan Mountain, known as "Fiery Mountain" in a classical Chinese
novel Journey to the West which has given the mountain such a mysterious tinge,
never fail to charm whoever comes to this mystical land. Forty-seven out of
China's some sixty ethnic groups totaling over twelve million people, live in
the region. The Kirgizs and the Mongolians. The ancient customs of many of the
minority people and their hospitality always leave an unforgettable impression
on visitors. Tianchi
(Heavenly Lake) and Nanshan Pasture are two places you must see while visiting
Urumqi, the land of contrast.
Turpan
–ancient stop on the Silk Road,
once called
Gushi in
ancient
times; the place where the State of South Cheshi and the South Cheshi
Court were
set up during the Han dynasty; established as Gaochang Prefecture where Tiandi
County were set up during Liang dynasty; founded as the State of Gaochang
during the Northern Wei dynasty; renamed Xichang prefecture during the Tang
dynasty until 1913, Turpan County was established.
During the conference, Urumqi city tour, grape valley,
and Gaochang
prefecture in Turpan will be arranged. Cost of the site seeings will be covered
by conference registration.
