The ORSC National Congress (ORSC2016) received over 700 participants

The biennial national meeting of ORSC members was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, which received over 700 participants from all over China. Among the seven invited plenary speakers include Prof. Nelson Maculan, immediate past president of IFORS, Prof. Dingzhu Du, University of Texas at Dalas, Prof. Xiaojun Chen, Polytechnic University of Hong Kong, and four other active Professors from mainland Chinese universities and Chinese Academy of Sciences. The big national event also invited around 30 speakers at thematic sessions organized by the ORSC special interest groups with topics from theoretical mathematical programming, graph and combinatorics to the applied data analytics in industrial processes and biological engineering.

The 3-day program also included prize competition for applications and young researchers, as well as the best paper awards of the JORSC. ORSC also elected new leadership including president (Xudong Hu), 9 vice presidents from all over the country and 45 active council members. The election also chose the heads for 8 working committees for publication, education, application, and OR promotion activities. The newly elected council is enthusiastic to further improve China’s OR community activities and work closely with international colleagues. The ORSC council has planned two collaborative events with EURO and German OR Societies for the coming 2017. The president encouraged members to participant the IFORS2017 and other joint workshops in Europe.

Council meeting

ORSC new standing council meeting was called on Oct 14 in Kunming China. The meeting reviewed organizational and activities issues and discussed plan for 2016. Important issues discussed include new membership regulations and fees, ORSC website online member system, outreach programs, and encouraging applied OR projects. As part of the agenda, the council called for host of ORSC2018.

Publications

Currently, ORSC have two journals in Chinese: OR transaction (4 issues/year) and OR/MS (to become monthly) receiving papers written in Chinese. Both of the two journals become online in 2011 and available for registered readers. During the congress the two journals renewed their editorial and board members to strengthen impact and management.

This new publication aims to a world-standard journal in OR related theories and solutions. The ORSC calls for excellent original papers from authors in world OR communities.

pecial interest groups & activities

ORSC has launched two new special interest groups in Industrial Data Analytics and Optimization and Behavior OR. A Health Care OR working group is under preparation. The new groups are proposed to enhance applications in the new practices. Details can be available at the ORSC website: http://www.orsc.org.cn

Planned activities in 2017

A joint China-Euro symposium on Combinatorcal Optimization with ECCO will be convened at Kopper Slovenia in May 3-6 2017. This is a joint EURO-ORSC-ECCO conference after the Shanghai conference on continuous optimization in 2015.

ORSC has scheduled a joint GOR-ORSC workshop in Shanghai in September 2017. The OR society of Germany will bring over 30 OR scholars to visit China and hold discussions on cooperation.

Planned special interest group conferences include mathematical programming congress in Guilin.
