The Operations Research Society of China is a national member of IFORS since 1982. It now has registered members of 2200 plus and 16 special interest groups. The current president of ORSC is Prof. Dai Yuhong, from Chinese Academy of Sciences. Representative to the IFORS is Prof. Xiaodong Hu (xdh@amss.ac.cn).

2020 was a difficult year for us all due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Several important meetings were canceled or postponed. The following are some selected ORSC major activities during 2020:

The 15^th Biennial National Conference of the Operations Research Society of China (ORSC2020) was successfully held in China’s central hub city of Hefei from October 15 to 18, 2020, with a record high of 900 participants.

Highlights of the 3-day conference included plenary speaker sessions, thematic parallel sessions, ORSC prize competitions, and election and board meetings. Prof. Maria Grazia Speranza (The University of Brescia, and the president of IFORS) was invited to give a virtual talk on “Trends in Transportation and Logistics” because of travel restrictions.

Some group meetings were held face to face while some online during 2020.

Some special interest group annual meetings were still held in Behavioral OR, Scheduling, Computational Systems Biology, and Mathematical Programming Committee, while many were held online.

ORSC launched weekly online seminars since April.

During the pandemic from early 2020, ORSC lunched its weekly online seminars since April. Each seminar invites one or two Chinese or international speakers to present their latest research results. So far, a total of 51 such seminars have been organized.

Publications

Currently, ORSC have two journals in Chinese: OR transaction (4 issues/year) and OR/MS (monthly) receiving papers written in Chinese, and an English Journal of ORSC published with Springer (quarterly, EI) http://www.springer.com/mathematics/applications/journal/40305 This new English journal aims to a world-standard journal in OR related theories and solutions. The ORSC calls for excellent original papers from authors in world OR communities.

Editorials of the ORSC journals had several workshops to outreach the publications and seek comments from authors and readers. These workshops were held online in May, September, and December.

Planned activities in 2021 and 2022

International Symposium on Mathematical Programming (ISMP2021) will be held in Beijing postponed to 2022 in August (http://ismp2022.csp.escience.cn/dct/page/1). This triennial international conference is an important event in the field of optimization. It is expected to attract over 2000 participants from around the world.

ORSC has also planned a joint GOR-ORSC workshop in Shanghai in 2022. The OR society of Germany will bring over 30 OR scholars to visit China and hold discussions on cooperation.
